New Residents' Info
Welcome to Waikiti! This notecard contains some additional information and tips, for residents of Waikiti. This notecard does not ammend or supercede the Covenant in any way -- it contains neither rules or requirements. Just some helpful info and pointers, that may help you to enjoy your Second Life here in Waikiti.
• Each lot is delivered empty and ready for you to start your build (there may be some Linden plants or trees, which you may delete as desired). The exception is there will be one small statue on the land. This is the estate's 'mascot' and ownership is transfered to you when you claim the land. You can delete it if you want, put it into inventory, move it, whatever. You do not need to leave it where you found it. Its yours, do what you like. It's just a 'gift' to you when you claim the land.
• If you are having trouble getting started with building, or if you are looking for a prefab home that would fit the style and theme of Waikiti Island, please feel free to contact Atashi Toshihiko, or any of the Waikiti estate managers.
• As noted in the Covenant, the overall theme of Waikiti is that of a micro-polynesian tropical island. Lately this has begun to evolve/ refine into that of an early 20th century era, post-colonial south-pacific island chain. If you are having trouble finding a style of building you like, please contact Atashi Toshihiko; she can provide some landmarks to shops that have 'island style' prefabs. Alternatively, have a tour around the islands and see the sorts of places that already exist, to get a feel for things.
• As soon as you have claimed your property, it is a good idea to go into About Land (right click on the ground, then select About Land) and examine all the settings, and change the name of the plot. Renaming the plot identifies it to everyone as yours. If it still says 'Lot # whatever', strangers might mistakenly think the lot is still available and wander in looking around.
• We *Strongly* suggest that you either disable public build, Or you set the Auto-Return function. Public build means anybody can rez things on your land, and without auto-return, this can lead to griefing. To disable public build, use the About Land menu, and the Options tab. Make sure 'Allow Any' is unchecked for the build/create objects option. To turn on Auto-Return, in the About Land menu, on the Objects tab, set the Auto-Return time to anything other than 0. Any value between 1 and 10 minutes should be fine.
If you need help with these settings please don't hesitate to contact Atashi Toshihiko or one of the estate managers.
• You can control the media streams, so you can have music or video streamed to your parcel. These settings are on the Media tab in About Land.
• Also on the media tab is a box for 'restrict spacialized sounds to this parcel'. It is a good idea to select this box. This means that a) any sounds/noises caused by you, your guests, your objects, will not leave your parcel and bother other residents, and b) sounds/noises that originate from outside your parcel cannot cross into your own parcel.
• You can change the parcel picture (Under the About Land, Options tab) to whatever you like.
• You can set up the various options, such as allowing others to build, run scripts etc. (Also under the Options tab)
• Although your SL browser will let you manipulate and change the Access and Ban tabs in About Land, please note that it is a violation of the Covenant to set up general ban lines. (Adding Avatars to the 'Ban list' will ban only those individuals, which is not a violation of the Covenant. Adding Avatars to the 'Access list' automaticaly bans everyone else, which *is* a violation of the Convenant.) If there is an avatar causing you grief or problems, please contact Atashi Toshihiko to discuss options. We can ban avatars from the entire region as required.
• Within a day or two of claiming your land, you will be invited to join a Group - the Waikiti Islanders group. This is not a requirement, it entirely optional. However, we do reccomend you join. As a resident, it will allow you to wear the Waikiti Resident group tag. You will be able to participate in group discussions, create group notices and vote on group proposals. If you frequent the public Beach, Narrows, or Lagoon areas, the Waikiti Resident group tag will identify you to members of the estate staff or security, so if you need assistance they will know to give you preferential treatment. Again, membership is optional. If you choose not to join, you can always ask to be re-invited at a later time. Likewise, if you join but change your mind, you can leave the group at any time.
• Editing terrain is possible up to a limit of plus or minus 2 meters. This should be sufficient to allow minor changes to the landscape, in order to accomodate a building or flatten a bump here or add a bump there, while preventing major alterations to the overall look and feel of the region. If you have a particular requirement that exceeds the 2 meter limit, please contact Atashi Toshihiko to discuss your plans. While we cannot guarantee every request will be approved, we will do our best to be fair and work with you so that your build / plan / idea is a success.
• Your rent comes due on the same day every month. I will do my best to send you a reminder IM the day before. Payment arrangements and info are outlined in the Covenant. As with all things, I do try to be fair here too. I don't intend to come charging if the rent is a minute late, returning prims and siezing land. On the other hand, if rent is consistantly late, we will have to talk.
• Atashi Toshihiko is the owner of Waikiti Estate. If you have a problem you cannot resolve, or a dispute with another resident that cannot be resolved through chat or IM, please contact Atashi. Any problems such as object/prim encroachment, noise disturbances, banlines, etc. should be directed to Atashi.
If you have questions or concerns that have not been covered in this notecard, or in the Covenant, please don't hesitate to contact Atashi Toshihiko.
