The Most Romantic Place In Second Life…

On Tuesday February 10th, 2009, I was honoured and surprised to learn that Waikiti was chosen by the Meta Makeover programme of SLCN.tv as the most romantic place in Second Life!

They had run a contest in January where viewers were invited to submit locations which they thought were the most romantic. I do not know how many entries were submitted, but Waikiti was chosen as the winner!

You can view the show  here on the SLCN.tv website incase you missed the live broadcast.

Colonial Waikiti

So, what makes Waikiti such a romantic place?

It could be the beaches, the sand, sun, and surf… It could be the clubhouse. Perhaps the hiking trail, the bay, our waterfall… Maybe it’s Poliwai park. Or the aerodrome…

In fact, I believe that it is all of these things, together, along with the community that surrounds and ties them all together.

To me, Waikiti is a little group of tropical islands, set in the 1920s – a time when I believe we have the widest variety in all things. On the sea, vessles are powered by canvas, steam, and diesel. On land, walking, cycling, horse-and-buggy, and the motor car all share the paths. Aviation has come, and is itself a romantic adventure, the skies are home to both aeroplane and lighter-than-air craft. And finally, the world at large is yet still mysterious, where strange and exotic places — like Waikiti — still have the capacity to surprise, delight, or even alarm us.

The peaceful relaxation of island life, the simplicity of a bygone era, the excitement of the exotic and unknown, and the cameraderie of our community, all come together to make Waikiti greater than the sum of its parts. This is what I believe.
